The shear cut is almost always used for metal shearing. We offer tools for metal shearing from 0.3 mm to 30 mm thick up to a maximum of 2400N/mm².

Correct results of the shearing can be secured by:

shearing process
shearing gap
steel quality combined with hardness (HRc)

In the shearing process, the tools go against each other, while the metal is pliably formed at the beginning, up to the point depending on the metal strength when the forming changes into a fracture.

If the shearing gap is too small, the cutoff part is reduced and the shear looks like the letter "S". The tools become blunt earlier and their life is reduced by 30-50%.
If the gap is too large, the metal is broken, the cut is not clean and a massive burr occurs, which is undesirable, e. g. for further processing.
The correct shearing gap should be 2. 8% of the thickness of the metal sheared in materials of about 800 N/mm, a shearing clearance of about 3-5% is recommended in softer metals such as aluminium, copper, and the like.
